Why personal values matter.
A personal value is a deeply held belief or principle that you have.
A personal value guides your behaviour, decisions, and priorities in life.
It is what you consider important, meaningful or right.
Personal values influence how you see the world, how you interact with others, and what you strive for.
Here are the ways in which personal values influence your life: Interpersonal relationships.
The more time you spend with someone, the more important that you have values that are similar.
Work cohesion: Having compatible personal values leads to high levels of teamwork.
Stress Management: When your actions align with our values, you are more likely to feel content and at peace. When there’s a mismatch, it can lead to stress, dissatisfaction, or even burnout.
Here are some examples of personal values. If you have a personal value of honesty, you may always prioritize telling the truth, even in difficult situations.
You may be someone who values adventure. You might seek out new experiences and take risks to live an exciting life.
You may be someone who values family. You may make decisions that prioritize spending time with loved ones.
Personal values are unique to you as an individual and are shaped by your experiences, culture, upbringing, and personal reflection.
They often serve as a compass for living authentically and purposefully.
Personal values are also important in the workplace:
Examples of these are: Professionalism: Maintaining a positive attitude, meeting deadlines, and demonstrating competence.
Teamwork: To Value collaboration and working effectively with others to achieve shared goals.
Accountability: To take responsibility for your own actions and delivering on commitments.
Respect: Treating colleagues, clients, and stakeholders with dignity and consideration.
