Here is another example of gratitude in action. In a previous video we illustrated how the state of happiness occurs when the balance of emotions is such that the pleasant emotions are stronger than the unpleasant emotions. By adding pleasant emotions into your experience, you can influence the overall balance of your emotions and your overall mood. I will illustrate this by way of an example: Jack takes his dogs for a walk on the beach.
The dogs run around and seem to be having fun.
Jack enjoys the experience of being with his dogs on the beach.
Jack feels uplifted.
He gives thanks for this experience. His dialogue goes like this: Thank you for my two beautiful dogs and the companionship they provide. Thank you that i have a home big enough for two large dogs. Thank you that I have sufficient money to take care of my dogs well. Thank you that I live near a beach where I can take the dogs. Thank you for the beautiful sunny day where we could be outside. By expressing gratitude, Jack felt a lot of positive emotions. He felt warm and love towards his dogs. He felt energised by the good day that he was experiencing. Jack felt blessed. These positive emotions contributed to Jack finding himself in a state of happiness. You do not leave your happiness to chance only. You learn to influence your happiness. Our program has the facility to examine your emotions, identify events and record your statements of gratitude for your events. We have an online gratitude journal Whenever Jack felt that he was about to experience a low mood, he would read his gratitude journal. This always has the effect of lifting his mood.
